Growing up with a Nanny from Russia was interesting to say the least! My Mom was the eldest of two girls and the only child with off spring! When we didn't live up to Nanny's expectations the Russian would start flying and you knew you were in trouble. In those days you didn't teach your children another language but English(you lived in America and English is what you spoke) so sad to say I know little Russian! There are a few words that I remember and Studdabubba is one of them! I remember it was used to describe women my Nanny didn't like or an outfit, shoes, or a way of thought that my Aunt didn't like. I knew what it meant and my sister and I used it too! ALF knows when I ask her if this looks too "Studdabubba" she should be honest!
Studdabubba has followed me through life and just recently I was at work and was in the Recovery Room with a Post Op patient giving report and our conversation went to something personal and I said now that I am getting Studdabubbaish(my own word) I like to watch the styles that I wear! A post op patient raises his head looks at me and says your not a Studdabbba yet you are too young!! Now the girl I was talking to had no idea what the patient was talking about but I wanted to hug that patient or at least give him another dose of pain medication!
Yet on another trip to the gift shop to buy candy at work, I was looking for something to satisfy my sweet tooth and I came upon the above picture and now I know why my patient was so kind with his comment! My 92 year old mother is a studdabubba and I am closing in!
